The Tolerance Foundation is a non-profit organization, located in Montreal, Canada. It was created in 1995 during the United Nations' Year of Tolerance. The Tolerance Foundation's mission is to prevent, inform and raise awareness about the dangers inherent in intolerance, prejudice, exclusion, racism and discrimination in all its forms. Tolerance is an integral part of human rights and peace, and consists in allowing others to have themselves and their identities respected. In so doing, freedom of convictions is ensured for all. This also means that no persons should impose their values on another person. Tolerance is neither concession, nor condescension, nor complacency, since not everything can be tolerated. To achieve this objective, The Tolerance Foundation relies on unique educational solutions: a traveling exhibit called the Tolerance Caravan, participative theater, and the Action Week Against Racism. The Caravan, their main activity, informs youth about the tools which society has given itself to fight discriminatory attitudes, such as the Canadian and ''Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms''. The traveling exhibit is offered in both French and English. From inception to 2008, the Caravan has visited 255 high schools and cegeps, and met with more than 200,000 students. Consequently, this has made the Tolerance Foundation a prominent and first-rate educational organization in Canada and Quebec. In recognition of this, the Foundation has been awarded numerous national and international prizes.
